It’s the songwriting instincts of composer Kyla Stroud that really sell the show. Their background in Americana shines through strongly, with tight four-part harmonies that the cast absolutely nails and guitar-led hooks that turn every song into a hummable hit.
Evening Standard

What completely sold me with Public is its fantastic score. This musical is filled to the brim with clever lyrics, cool and modern melodies.
Playbill

Stroud’s diverse score drives the narrative along in perfect unison.
The Stage

What ultimately makes the show a success is the terrific melodies and vocal talents of the company that makes each song a banger.
What's On Stage

Kyla is one of those annoying creatives who doesn't really know what to call themselves.

If you met them on a Sunday night at a music venue in London, you'd likely be meeting Kyla (or LAKY, as they're known on the music circuit) the singer/songwriter. If you catch them outside of a theatre, maybe it's Kyla the Composer, the Writer or even the Producer/Theatre-Maker. Above anything else, they call themselves an ideator and those ideas often focus on creating work that encourages compassion and kindness. They believe the best work is beautifully diverse, original and compassionate. Music usually sits at the heart of what they do but they're always keen to push themselves beyond their creative comfort zone.

Musical accolades include: winning London's Best Busker, receiving a music publishing deal with Kobalt, supporting Emeli Sande, and writing their first musical 'Public - The Musical'. This production earned accolades such as the Vault Festival Origins Award 2023, The Charlie Hartill Award, and Playbill's Pick Of The Fringe. Gathering a full list of wonderful reviews, including the first 5-star Edinburgh Fringe review from The Stage, 'Public' enjoyed a sold-out run at the 2023 Festival. Additionally, Kyla is the founding force behind 'Stroud & Notes,' a queer theatre collective recently acknowledged for its outstanding contribution to 'Public' at The 2023 BBC Writers Room Popcorn Awards.

Kyla is currently based between London and the Kent countryside but is prone to chuck a guitar on their back and follow the next inspired gust of wind that passes them.
